Beginning your career as a therapist can be challenging.
So many feelings run through your mind all at once – excitement, hope, fear, uncertainty.
It’s not uncommon to feel like an inadequate imposter at first. “Did I make the right choice?” “Can I actually help these people?” “What if I say the wrong thing?”
You chose this career because you have a deep desire to help others and make a difference. But it takes more than admirable intentions to succeed.
Graduate school can only prepare you for so much.
Sure, you absorbed all you could from textbooks and lectures, but this pales in comparison to the clinical knowledge and understanding that comes from working with clients one-on-one.
You never learned what to do when you leave a heavy session with a client and feel emotionally drained.
And what about the interactions where you’re faced with an ethical dilemma and are unsure how to proceed?
This is where having a trusted clinical supervisor helps.
It’s essential to have someone you can rely on to guide you through tough cases, help sharpen your clinical skills, capitalize on your strengths, and navigate the ins and outs of licensure.
You need someone who believes in your success and will call you out, be transparent with you, and teach you to treat your clients in the same gentle and compassionate way.
Having an experienced mentor to support, guide, and encourage you is essential to creating a thriving career and can frequently make the difference between flourishing and burning out.
Let me fill this role for you on your journey to success.
Supervising associate therapists is not something I take lightly. I understand the importance of staying current on board regulations, tracking/signing off on hours, and, most importantly, caring for my supervisees’ emotional and mental well-being.
I have extensive experience in the field and as a Clinical Supervisor in an inpatient/outpatient, crisis-level setting. This includes working with families, children, adults, co-occurring disorders, crisis intervention, and those with severe mental illness.
